Public limited company "RINGUVA" was established in 1920 in Kaunas upon the decree of Antanas Smetona, the President of the interwar Republic of Lithuania. The aim of establishment was not only establishing another factory that generated profit. It was a significant and courageous strategic step at the scale of the entire state: proving ourselves and the foreign countries that Lithuania is capable of not only exporting raw materials, but also producing high-quality oil.
The first products of "RINGUVA" were flax oil, flax lubricant, oilcake, crushed paint, and wheel oil. The company used to use up around 12-15 carloads of flax oil per month. It had a very positive effect on Lithuanian industry and agriculture, as the products of "RINGUVA" not only prevented the import of oil, but also helped Lithuanian farmers to develop the industry of flax by buying flax oil in domestic market.
Public limited company "LIETUVOS MUILAS" Panevėžys factory was founded in 1933. It was one of the largest industrial companies operating in Panevėžys at the time. The director of the company was V. Zelčius, a certificated chemist having graduated from Kaunas Vytautas Magnus University and having worked in similar companies in Belgium for a few years. During the first year of activity, laundry soap Skalbėja was being produced.

In 1938, "LIETUVOS MUILAS" Panevėžys factory was reconstructed and the first steam boiler was installed as well as other equipment purchased from Germany. Public limited company RINGUVA started producing laundry soap. In 1939, the first soaps were called Gintaras, Katė, Taupa, Skalsa, and Gaidys.

Soap and oil workshops were operating at full capacity. In 1945, the production line was expanded – the production of coarse soap powder was started. In 1948, public limited company "RINGUVA" was nationalised and merged with State Oil, Fat, and Tobacco Trust and ten years later it was renamed into Kaunas Soap Factory.
